Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Champaign, IL

Overview

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work at a brand-new, fully automated batch chemical blending and packaging facility. The company is seeking an engineer with strong instrumentation and controls experience to play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of production operations. You’ll leverage advanced DCS and PLC control systems to manage complex batch recipes and maintain consistent, high-quality output.

Most of the equipment is already installed, but some additional help may be needed for more and commissioning. Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing automation systems and instrumentation, as well as supporting continuous process and equipment improvements. You’ll also collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to implement automation upgrades and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Also interfacing with outside contractors and global engineers for additional support. Additionally, you’ll assist with the commissioning, testing, and validation of new control systems and equipment installations.

Perks

In addition to joining a new team and working in a clean facility with high-tech equipment, this role will primarily be on first shift (with some flexibility required for on‑call support). It is bonus eligible, and the company offers a 401(k) with a percentage match, full benefits, and opportunities for growth and career development. They are also open to relocating the right candidate for this role.

Ideal

Candidate Background

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or a closely related field), non‑degree technicians may also be considered. 2 years of hands‑on Distributed Control Systems (DCS) engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is highly preferred. Experience working in batch and packaging environments, and familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and programming are all a plus.
