Position: Construction Inspection Engineer (Roads & Bridges)

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Inspection Engineer to oversee the inspection of roads, bridges, and related infrastructure for county, city, and other local government agencies. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background (geotechnical, structural, or pavement-related) and a proven track record in field inspection and quality assurance.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of roads, bridges, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with AASHTO and ASTM standards for construction and pavement inspection.
  • Monitor foundation installations for bridges and retaining walls; prior geotechnical inspection experience is a plus.
  • Supervise and document materials testing, including pavement cores, soil compaction, and concrete quality.
  • Utilize nuclear density gauges and electrical density gauges for field compaction testing (a plus).
  • Review contractor work to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Prepare inspection reports, technical documentation, and compliance evaluations.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • PE License in Illinois (Required).
  • 10+ years of experience in construction inspection, roads, bridges, or pavement engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's is a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM standards related to construction inspection.
  • Experience with geotechnical foundation inspections (preferred).
  • Familiarity with nuclear density gauges and electrical density testing (preferred).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and materials testing results.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
