Overview
The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides planning and service to patients and physicians in order to facilitate the scheduling and performance of procedures.

- Facilitates the scheduling of procedures within a hospital or out‑patient surgery center.
- Proactively identify potential problems with cases that are missing information and discrepancies in type of procedure, surgeon, and times.
- Coordinates scheduling of procedure suites with the provider, anesthesia services, and ancillary services.
- May conduct financial discussion with patients regarding fees for surgical procedures and collect surgical deposits, as per departmental guidelines.
- Serves as a resource to other staff regarding scheduling functions and participates in training other staff to cover during absences or anticipated vacancies.
- Schedules pre‑procedure H&P's per policy MS503.
- Create new patient account and input medical insurance as applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Accurately completes procedure case and documents per department protocol.
- Works collaboratively and communicates respectfully with other members of the surgical services team.
- Reviews insurance types and collaborates closely with medical insurance department for accurate coding and prior auths.
- Schedules pre‑surgery and post‑op visits as needed.
- Maintains attention to detail and proactively ensures accurate procedural schedules.
- Manages incoming and outgoing phone calls maintaining department service level and abandonment rates.
- Provides patient instructions verbally and/or in person per department protocol.

The compensation range for this position is $18.65 per hour - $30.21 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
