Job Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Youth Services, the full-time School-Based Therapist provides mental health services to a diverse student population. Services include, but are not limited to, providing prevention, early intervention, and treatment services to students individually or in groups, along with public presentations to students, parents, and professionals. Position may support crisis intervention services, including assessment, coordination, and follow up.

Clinicians will provide continuity of care throughout the school year and participate in varied school events and meetings at the schools. The services are provided onsite at Woodland School District 50.

  • Flexibility in scheduling is required; some evenings and/or Saturday mornings may be required.
    Position generally requires a school-based therapist at the school Monday - Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. This position will be held by either 1 or 2 therapists. Hours may be adjusted during school closures.
Job Specifications

Minimum Education, Experience & Certification:

  • Master's Degree in a human services field
  • Illinois license or license eligibility as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP).
  • 2-3 years' experience providing clinical services to youth and families
  • 2-3 years' experience in a school setting
  • Experience working with substance abuse, public education and prevention, and trauma experience preferred
  • Flexibility in scheduling required - some evenings and/or Saturday mornings may be required
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Train Woodland staff and partnering adults in mental-health literacy, recognition, and referrals.
  • Support district-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) and the installation of the Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) across all campuses.
  • Deliver person-centered, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed assessment and treatment using evidence-based interventions.
  • Utilize a strengths-based approach in collaborating with family systems, school staff, and community partners. May participate in community collaboration and treatment team meetings in support of students.
  • Participate in District administrative and team meetings as needed.
  • Participate in school and community related activities as directed (e.g., school-wide events, PTA meetings).
  • Provide education and prevention on mental health, substance use, and suicide.
  • Coordinate all services with the Woodland District staff.
  • Conduct assessment interviews with clients and their families.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling to clients and their families.
  • Conduct individual, family, and group counseling sessions at the school, community, or office based on the needs of the student.
  • Assist clients in developing solution-focused resolutions to problems.
  • Make referrals to other community agencies when appropriate.
  • Provide education on avariety of topics to parents, students, and educators within the district.
  • Maintain and complete files and client documentation in compliance with quality assurance and utilization policies and procedures.
  • Train, monitor, and 'supervise' interns, as determined by Executive Director. Prepare any mid-term and final reports required by intern's school.
  • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA, student clinical records, record requests).
  • Operate pursuant to federal and state laws, as well as professional codes of ethics and codes of conduct.
