Overview

The Procedural Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.

Qualifications

Certifications:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA);
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA);
Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

Education:

College Diploma in Nursing.

Work Experience:

Responsibilities

  • Provides and facilitates competent healthcare for patients and families in the area of practice.
  • Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Performs advanced nursing activities, including assisting with procedures using conscious sedation, IV placement, and monitoring patients in recovery from sedation.
  • Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
  • Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
  • Acts as a preceptor and supports the development of staff and healthcare students.
  • Provides leadership for initiatives aimed at improving quality of care or clinical outcomes.
  • Assists Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in developing departmental standing orders.
  • Assesses patients in the procedural area pre- and post-procedure, reviews medication, allergies, medical history, and obtains vital signs.
  • Initiates IV therapy.
  • Triage phone calls, completes prior authorizations, injection screening, and MRI screenings.
  • Provides education to patients in the office and post-injection area.
  • Orders, stocks, and maintains supplies for the department.
  • Performs urine drug screens.
  • Assists Injectionists with procedures such as epidurals, nerve blocks, joint injections, radio frequency nerve ablation, etc.
