Christie Clinic's department of Vein & Vascular is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at the University clinic from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with no night or weekend requirements.

Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners must provide diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative medicine under the supervision of the physician. Working with all Providers in Department and collaborating care Providers.

JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

• Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients. Review patient records.
• Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
• Perform a complete and/or focused physical exam and record findings. Establish presumptive diagnosis if needed.
• Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
• Administer injections, immunizations and/or oral medications. Suture wounds. Prepare written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
• Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
• Instruct patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions. Provide patient education.
• Assist Physicians by recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders and transcribing orders.
• Assist Physicians with hospital rounding and procedures.
• Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
• Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
• Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
• Perform related work as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a health care related field
• Successful completion of a post basic Physician Assistants program
• Successful completion of the Physician Assistants exam provided by the National Commission on the certification of Physician Assistants
• Current Illinois state Advanced Practice Nurse Certified Nurse Practitioner license
• Evidence of annual completion of health related courses and/or seminars with a certificate and/or CEU

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:

• Illinois State Licensure
• DEA Licensure
• Certification as a Physician Assistant
• Illinois State controlled substance license
• CPR Certification
• ACLS certification

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 75 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a clinical setting and requires frequent exposure to sharp objects, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
