Description
The Person al Trainer is responsible for instructing, motivating and coaching individual member clients or groups in personalized exercise plans. Trainers maintain and provide a professional and confidential relationship in which the participant will be instructed on the benefits of exercise and the proper use of exercise equipment. Personal Trainers must provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
KNOW-HOW- Know and understand all CPR, AED and Emergency Building procedures to properly handle an emergency situation an initiate the necessary emergency procedures when applicable.
- A basic understanding of exercise physiology and the proper use of cardiovascular and strength training equipment.
- Minimum of a high school education with a recognized personal trainer certification OR a 4-year college degree in exercise science (or similar field) and a recognized personal trainer certification to be obtained within the first 3 months of employment.
- National recognized personal training certification. Acceptable certifications include but are not limited to: ACE, Cooper Institute, NCSA, AFAA and ACSM.
- A demonstrated ability to teach others. The incumbent must be comfortable conducting personal training sessions with members individually and in groups.
- Must support the mission and values of the YMCA.
The nature of this position requires medium physical efforts such as setting up equipment, spotting lifters and moving equipment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES- Must interact with every member utilizing the fitness facilities.
- Responsible for knowing members by name and introducing yourself to unknown faces, creating an atmosphere of friendly community.
- Responsible for logging sessions and keeping paperwork organized and up to date.
- Responsible for communicating the needs of members to the Wellness Director.
- Responsible for conducting personal training sessions with both individuals and groups.
- Responsible for promoting your services to members.
- Responsible for reporting any equipment or facility concerns to the Wellness Director.
- Must arrive ready to work at scheduled times and communicate with clients efficiently.
- To maintain a positive TEAM environment and professional relationship with staff and patrons.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
