Lumber Yard Associate – R.P. Lumber Company Inc.

Base pay range: $15.00/hr – $20.00/hr your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience – talk with your recruiter.

Summary of Position

A Yard Associate is responsible for ensuring that each customer of R.P. Lumber Co. receives prompt and courteous service while maintaining safety, accountability, and cleanliness. Responsibilities include proper storage of products and equipment maintenance, participation in delivery operations, accurate inventory record‑keeping, and assisting with unloading and stocking of shingles, drywall, lumber, millwork, and other products. The direct supervisor is the Yard Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Greet customers or professional contractors upon entry into the yard or Home Retail Center.
  • Load materials into customers' vehicles or onto company delivery vehicles, validating type and quantity based on POS records.
  • Unload incoming freight, taking care not to damage goods or carrier equipment.
  • Operate forklift to merchandise and stock yard and warehouse.
  • Accurately build loads and prepare materials for delivery before dispatch.
  • Assist truck drivers with delivery of merchandise to homeowners and job sites using company equipment.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding product selection, order placement, pricing requests, delivery and installation scheduling, and follow‑up.
  • Maintain inventory, product displays, and pricing labels within the assigned area, following merchandising standards.
  • Follow and enforce all safety rules and policies as set by management.
  • Perform other assigned duties as requested by the Yard Manager.
Required Skills
  • Forklift experience preferred, though the right candidate will be trained.
  • Follow safety expectations consistent with the handling and transport of materials.
  • Regular, reliable, dependable attendance.
  • Knowledge of building materials, applications, related equipment, or construction industry is desired but not required.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) when dealing with vendors, customers, management, and team members.
  • Capable of applying common sense and executing simple one‑ or two‑step instructions.
  • Provide professional customer service and work in a team‑oriented environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: 1 year of related work experience.
  • Acceptable driving record and a valid state‑issued driver’s license (Missouri locations require a Class E license).
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Successful applicants are subject to pre‑employment drug testing, background checks, and driver history checks in accordance with applicable federal and state law.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending, and walking most of the day.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move 50–100 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work and tolerate adverse weather conditions.
Pay Rate / Wages & Benefits

Hourly Rate: $15 – $20.

Potential pay rate based upon region, experience, education, licenses, and certifications.
