Para educator Special Education – Anoka-Hennepin School District
Full‑Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day
Responsibilities- Assisting in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center‑based settings.
- Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
- Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
- Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of the start date.
- Completion of 60 semester / 90 quarter credits or possession of an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passing the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam (documentation required).
- Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, supervise students, take direction, and maintain regular attendance.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform physical tasks such as toileting, feeding, self‑care procedures, and implementing a behavioral management program.
- $20.00–$25.30 per hour (DOQ with K‑12 experience)
- $21.15–$26.45 per hour with an AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits (DOQ with K‑12 experience)
- $22.00–$27.30 per hour with a BA degree (DOQ with K‑12 experience)
- Special Education Paras serving center‑based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
- Special Education Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program or River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.00 per hour.
Insurance benefits available for assigned positions of 6 hours or more per day.
