POSITION SUMMARY:

The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation processes. The position operates the company’s Hydrovac, and other machines used in construction to excavate, load, pothole, dig or break rocks or debris, dirt, or other materials. The Hydrovac Operator acts as crew lead, responsible for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate hydrovac equipment to safely and efficiently excavate soil and debris from various locations
  • Perform routine maintenance on hydrovac equipment, including daily inspections and basic repairs
  • Communicate effectively and professionally in all interactions
  • Communicate with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient and effective completion of all tasks
  • Ensure the safety of the crew, jobsite and the public at all times
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of work performed
  • Represent company to customers and public professionally and respectfully
  • Complete required daily reports, timekeeping and other records with accuracy
  • Report to work on time and ready to perform each day
  • Assist other crews when needed based on company’s needs
  • Attend weekly in-house coordination meeting and pre‑plan a 3‑week look ahead schedule
  • Lead and mentor crew members
  • Follow all company safety policies & procedures including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Continue learning and developing overall knowledge and skills related to the company’s scopes of work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICIATIONS:
  • Must have a valid DOT medical card and clean driving record
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen
  • Mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Able to work independently or as a team player to perform duties
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams, and instructions
  • Have reliable transportation to/from yard each day
  • Open to flexible hours including variable start/end times, some nights and weekends
  • 1+ year of Hydrovac experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, cold temperatures, fumes, and exposure to dust and concrete
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 pounds, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint, or throw an object
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi‑limb coordination
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Work in the construction area poses significantly greater risk due to moving construction equipment and active construction zones with trip and fall hazard

This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Must be willing and able to drive within a 60+ mile radius from DCS’s office to and from assigned job site.
