Position: Para educator Special Education - Classroom Support - 6.5 hrs per day

CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASSIFICATION: SUPPORT HOURLY

JOB TITLE:

PARA EDUCATOR SPECIAL EDUCATION - CLASSROOM SUPPORT CALENDAR: 1802PT OR 1902FT (9 MONTH) SALARY: GRADE 106 (SUPPORT HOURLY) Job Goal:

Provide instructional support under the supervision of the special education teacher in a special education environment or as required by an individual education plan (IEP); and provide support to students with a variety of needs- identified under IDEA - in a specialized classroom.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and an Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an AZ state-approved competency exam
  • CPR/First Aid (certification provided)
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Meet the physical demands described below
Core

Job Functions:
  • Student Support & Instruction: Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction to reinforce material introduced by the teacher. Assist students with a wide range of physical, emotional, and academic needs as outlined in their IEPs.
  • Medical & Personal Care: Assist students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, dressing) and administer emergency rescue medication or basic first aid when necessary.
  • Behavioral Support: Implement behavioral plans developed by the student’s support team to help students modify behaviors that may conflict with a positive learning environment.
  • Supervision & Safety: Supervise students during all school activities, including emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, lunch, and playtime. Maintain a constant awareness of student well-being and safety, reporting any potential dangers or concerns to the teacher immediately.
  • Administrative & Collaborative Duties: Assist with data collection and assessments, as directed by the certified teacher. Participate in meetings and training to enhance your knowledge and skills.
  • Confidentiality & Communication: Maintain strict confidentiality of all student and staff information. Serve as a translator, both orally and in writing, for parents, students, and staff as needed.
  • General Operations: Assist in maintaining a quiet and orderly classroom. Properly operate and care for instructional equipment and follow all district policies and safety protocols.

  • Mobility and Movement:
    Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, and sit. The role involves repetitive finger and manual dexterity.
  • Sensory and Communication:
    Requires the ability to speak, hear, and see (with correction) to perform essential job functions.
  • Physical Exertion:
    • Occasionally:
      Lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequently:
      Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
    • Constantly:
      Lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Work Environment:
    Employees may be exposed to various environmental factors such as odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, blood borne pathogens, and loud noises.
  • General:
