The 504 Coordinator is responsible for the school-wide oversight, implementation, and monitoring of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This position ensures that eligible students receive appropriate accommodations and services, in full compliance with federal and state laws. The 504 Coordinator collaborates with staff, families, and the school to uphold procedural safeguards, support student access, and provide training and consultation on Section 504 processes.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the initial evaluation and reevaluation process to determine student eligibility under Section 504.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements including parent/guardian notification, informed consent, procedural safeguards, and due process.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and monitoring of 504 Plans in collaboration with school teams.
  • Maintain a centralized system to track all 504 Plans, timelines, evaluations, and annual reviews.
  • Provide training and consultation to school staff regarding 504 eligibility criteria, plan development, documentation, and implementation.
  • Ensure appropriate dissemination and implementation of student 504 Plans to all relevant staff.
  • Provide oversight and support to 504 case managers, including training and technical assistance.
  • Monitor fidelity of 504 Plan implementation and conduct regular audits for compliance.
  • Support the school team in conducting manifestation determination reviews for students with 504 Plans facing disciplinary actions.
  • Serve as the district liaison for 504-related complaints, resolution meetings, and Office for Civil Rights (OCR) inquiries.
  • Stay current on changes in federal and state laws regarding Section 504 and ADA.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members to ensure equitable access and resolution of concerns.
  • Assist with administering standardized assessments locally and within the state of Arizona.
  • Attend all school-sponsored activities.
  • Additional duties as needed.

Job Specific Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and applicable Arizona state guidelines.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Competency in reviewing and interpreting medical, educational, and psychological reports.
  • Ability to analyze data and documentation to make eligibility decisions.
  • Experience conducting professional development and training for educators.
Education/Training:
  • Master’s degree preferred in education, school psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
  • Valid Arizona teaching, administrative, counseling, or related certificate preferred.
  • Experience with Section 504 or special education processes required.
  • Previous school or school leadership experience preferred.
