CALENDAR:1802PT OR 1902FT (9 MONTH)

SALARY:

GRADE 107 (SUPPORT HOURLY)

Job Goal

Provide instructional and clerical support under the supervision of the special education teacher in a specialized environment or as required by an individual education plan (IEP).

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an AZ state-approved competency exam
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software
  • Satisfactory criminal background check

  • Ability to exert 10-30 lbs of force, to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

Core Job Functions
  • Within proximity to the teacher, instruct individual or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  • Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care needs (i.e., toileting/diapering) for the purpose of allowing students to function in a school environment
  • Assist the teacher/provider in evaluating the specific needs of students for the purpose of creating equipment and/or aids to meet special needs
  • Under the direction of the supervising teacher, implement behavior plans developed by the team, to include the parent, for the purpose of assisting students with behaviors in conflict with a positive academic and social environment
  • Maintain classroom and student equipment for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment
  • Transfer/lift students for the purpose of assisting them in performing daily activities
  • Adhering to guidelines of the IEP, assist students with physical, emotional, and educational needs while providing appropriate documentation related to activities of daily living for reimbursement of services for Medicaid in the Public Schools (MIPS).
  • Assist in whole-class, small-group, or individual educational demonstrations
  • Administer immediate basic first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured students
  • Assist with assessments and instructional review under the supervision of the certified teacher
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
  • Copy, collate, and file the requested documents
  • Develop and create classroom displays
  • Operate and care for equipment used for instructional purposes
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips
  • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
  • Participate in training as required for the purpose of improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected student and staff member information
  • Perform all duties related to general job functions as assigned by the supervisor
  • Accept responsibility for the student’s well-being and safety
  • Be alert to and report the possibility of any substance use, child abuse, or dangerous situations based upon daily observation
  • Assist in the maintenance of a quiet and orderly classroom environment
  • Operate properly and care for school district equipment
  • Follow district policies as outlined
  • Perform all duties safely and prudently as directed by supervisors

  • Mobility and Movement:
    Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, and sit. The role involves repetitive finger and manual dexterity.

    Requires the ability to speak, hear, and see (with correction) to perform essential job functions.
  • Physical Exertion:
    • Occasionally:
      Lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequently:
