Site Engineer I
Position Title: Site Engineer I
Your role: The Site Engineer I is a contributing member of the site‑level Data Center Operations team, assigned to one or more of our data center properties and reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering Operations. The engineer will have experience in mission‑critical infrastructure, including generators, UPS systems, HVAC systems, fire/life‑safety systems, BMS systems, and CMMS systems. The candidate is expected to have expertise in either electrical or mechanical work, with competency in the complementary area.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Gain a complete understanding of DLR and site‑related items such as facility layout, MEP systems, equipment nomenclature, drawings, and specifications.
- Develop and maintain site operating procedures, change‑management tickets, incident reports, and SOPs.
- Support day‑to‑day site operations, including maintenance, repairs, and inspections to achieve 100% uptime.
- Supervise construction activity and installations as required.
- Execute low‑risk preventative maintenance and repairs, creating Method of Procedures (MOPs) and overseeing their implementation.
- Effectively troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems and respond to unplanned events without supervision.
- Perform regular rounds/inspections, detect anomalies, and improve SOPs for site‑specific equipment.
- Support accreditation initiatives (SSAE
16, SOC2, ISO 27001, etc.) and complete Digital Realty Critical Awareness Training. - Maintain a strong understanding of local customer business and data center operations.
- At least 1 year of experience in mission‑critical facilities operating/engineering.
- Hands‑on electrical or mechanical skill with competence in the complementary area.
- Strong knowledge of UPS systems, cooling systems, redundancy configurations, and energy‑efficiency principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CMMS, DCIM, and power‑metering systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, bend, stoop, climb ladders (up to 16 ft), and work in a raised data‑center floor.
- Basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes.
