Job Summary

Operating Engineer S2 - Critical Environments will have a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping / Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all data center systems to maintain 100% uptime, including fire/life safety, mechanical systems such as HVAC, chillers, CRAC, CRAH, plumbing, controls, electrical components (emergency backup systems such as lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear, power distribution, transformers), and hot water systems.
  • Monitor operation, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment; boilers; ventilating and water heaters; pumps, valves, piping, and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation.
  • Analyze operation of systems, determine cause of problems, and take corrective action.
  • Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain clean safe workplace.
  • Learn and understand the data center site to manage incidents and events that risk critical systems.
  • Manage work orders, CMMS, vendor management, and customer‑facing tickets.
  • Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 4+ years related work experience in systems, emergency generators, and switchgears.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before small groups of tenants or fellow employees.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) and other software.
  • Professional interaction with tenants and contractors.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with Corrigo.
  • Experience with MCIM / Salesforce.
  • Experience with Zendesk.
  • Experience with Service Now.
  • Hands‑on experience working in a data center/critical facility, including UPS.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking large campus-like settings; frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, working/overhead.
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs; climb stairs and navigate rooftops; use ladders up to 30 ft; meet 300‑lb ladder weight limit.
  • Work different schedules; work holidays; respond to site emergencies.
