Test Engineer
Join the Chandler-based CPU design verification team within Arm’s global CPU group. You will help verify next-generation Cortex-A processor designs, focusing on memory-system functional blocks that contribute to high-quality CPU IP used across a wide range of electronic devices. Working with architects, designers and verification engineers, you will apply simulation and formal verification techniques to investigate complex design behaviour, improve verification environments and support delivery through each engineering phase.
This role offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of CPU microarchitecture and contribute to innovative verification approaches for leading-edge processor technology.
Responsibilities- Develop System Verilog UVM and formal verification environments and tests for block-level functional verification.
- Create and maintain verification plans for assigned functional blocks, supporting quality throughout engineering project phases.
- Generate and run tests on logic simulation models; investigate and debug functional issues in RTL using simulation and debug tools.
- Define and implement functional and statistical coverage, improve test benches, and drive coverage closure.
- Work closely with design and architecture colleagues to understand CPU memory-system behaviour and resolve verification issues.
- Practical experience in pre-silicon design verification, including developing and debugging verification environments for RTL designs.
- Knowledge of CPU memory-subsystem microarchitecture, including load/store functionality, L2 cache and memory management units (MMUs).
- Experience applying simulation and/or formal verification methods to verify hardware functional units.
- Software engineering capability in object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, with experience using System Verilog and UVM.
- Experience verifying high-performance CPU memory systems, including cache coherence, virtual memory, address translation, out-of-order execution or result return.
- Knowledge of processor microarchitecture concepts such as register renaming, reservation stations or processor pipelines.
- Experience building reusable UVM test benches and using functional coverage-driven verification methods.
- Experience with software engineering practices such as design patterns, profiling, unit testing or programming in multiple languages.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
You will work on technically complex CPU designs alongside a collaborative, engineering-focused team in Chandler and across Arm’s global CPU group. The role provides opportunities to build expertise in processor microarchitecture, modern verification methodologies and formal verification while helping deliver CPU IP that supports a broad range of computing devices. You will be encouraged to share ideas, learn from different perspectives and contribute to continuous improvements in how the team verifies and delivers high-quality designs.
