Job Description

CDM Smith is seeking a Forensic Accounting Specialist with expertise in disaster fraud claims. This role is critical in evaluating and analyzing financial data related to disaster-related claims, including property damage, business interruption, and other loss categories. The specialist will conduct thorough forensic investigations to identify discrepancies, detect potential fraud, and ensure the integrity and fairness of claim settlements. By applying advanced accounting, auditing, and investigative techniques, this individual will play a key role in supporting accurate and just outcomes for all stakeholders.

Successful final candidate could also be asked to work in Las Vegas, NM or Mora, NM.

Responsibilities
  • Claim Assessment and Quantification:
    Analyze financial records and supporting documentation to determine the validity and value of disaster-related claims.
  • Business Interruption Analysis:
    Assess the extent of business interruption and estimate lost profits, continuing expenses, and extra costs incurred during the recovery period.
  • Investigating Fraudulent Claims:
    Detect red flags, investigate suspicious transactions, and differentiate legitimate losses from inflated or fabricated claims.
  • Documentation and Evidence Gathering:
    Collect and organize all necessary documentation to support claim amounts, including invoices, receipts, contracts, photographs, and statements.
  • Damage Estimation:
    Use financial modeling and industry benchmarks to estimate the total financial impact of the disaster on the applicant's assets, inventory, and operations.
  • Expert Testimony and Litigation Support:
    In cases of disputes or litigation, present findings in court, provide expert testimony, and assist attorneys in building their cases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 15 years of in-field experience or 10 years of in-field expertise with a bachelor's degree.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Domestic travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), or CFF (Certified in Financial Forensics).
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a FEMA Badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and process a large volume of requests.
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and remain flexible.
Pay Range

Minimum: $59.85 per hour
Maximum: $126.00 per hour
