Machinist

Responsibilities

• Controlling machines and processes by using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Instruments should include but limited to calipers,  OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
• Machine parts to specification using tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders.
• Set‑up, adjust and operate all basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
• Inspect hardware or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems/defects.
• Able to analyze information, evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Assessing the value, importance, quality of parts material and or processes.
• Stay up to date on technology and applying new knowledge to your job.
• Program numerically controlled machine tool or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate quality products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machining work.
• Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
• Confer with Sr Machinist regularly ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly, and output will meet specifications.
• Perform in‑process inspection using standard measurement equipment. Accurately complete process paperwork, as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• 8-10 years of machining experience.
• Ability to work under minimal direction.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Handling, installing, positioning, moving/manipulating materials.
• Performing physical activities that require frequent activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
