Job OverviewThe QA/QC Technician ensures the highest quality and safety standards are met throughout our protective coatings division. Responsible for conducting inspections, tests, and quality control measures to maintain the company’s reputation for quality and excellence. Work with site and shop management to ensure that all QA/QC matters are addressed in a timely manner.
Job Duties- Ability to read and interpret architectural and steel blueprints for paint/no paint zones.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents including specifications to confirm use of correct material and client specific requirements.
- Experience with manufacturer product data sheets (PDS) to confirm prep and coating application requirements.
- Knowledge of NACE and SSPC coating standards applicable to shop and field paint applications.
- Self‑perform quality control inspections including but not limited to steel preparation, paint mixing and coating finishes.
- Record and maintain in‑process and final inspection records for quality assurance and production control.
- Notify foreman and QC Manager of defects and deficiencies of coating’s process and application.
- Help and assist personnel with interpretation of drawings and material data sheets.
- Observe company safety policies while working.
- Assist the Quality Control Manager.
- Coordinate work with production to identify required inspections.
- Maintain working relationships with clients and 3rd party inspectors.
- 3-5 years working in industrial coatings.
- Experience with material prep and/or painting of industrial protective coatings is required.
- Experience with paint inspection equipment including but not limited to DFT Gauge, Surface profile gauge, profile replica tape and temperature gauges is preferred, but willing to train in their use.
- Protective Coatings Inspector (PCI) 2 certifications preferred but not required
- Experience working in an AISC endorsed coating shop is a plus.
