Field Service Technician/Valve Tech - Marine
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician/Valve Tech for marine services. The role involves installing, servicing, and maintaining all ERL barge equipment, as well as performing valve shop work such as troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding pressure relief valves.
Duties and Responsibilities – Field Service- Install and service all types of ERL equipment.
- Maintain and stock the service truck with necessary parts.
- Follow all safety regulations set by ERL and barge owners.
- Document service jobs, including mileage, parts used, time on barge, and travel time.
- Follow detailed procedures and document dimensions and fits during assembly.
- Provide service for ERL valve and tubing customers, including repair and replacement.
- Communicate via email and phone with customers requiring service.
- Perform service work with minimal notice and be willing to drive several hundred miles away from ERL Houston.
- Take detailed notes and write reports in Word or Excel; save and email reports after each job.
- Work autonomously in valve repair processes.
- Ensure diagnostic, testing, and repair reports meet quality system standards.
- Perform failure assessments and make recommendations to the Valve Shop Manager.
- Demonstrate sound judgment to make decisions and corrections when problems arise.
- Install and remove repaired and new equipment.
- Complete all necessary field service paperwork and ancillary procedures.
- Ensure work and materials comply with manufacturer specifications.
- Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, or reassembly.
- Follow all policies and procedures; practice safe work habits.
- Be available for after‑hours and on‑call shifts.
- Maintain a valid TWIC Card and attend required job and safety training.
- Perform any job duties assigned by supervisor or manager.
- On‑site field service work.
- Current safety training.
- High school diploma, GED equivalent, or preferred education.
- 3–5 years of experience rebuilding and VR certifying pressure relief valves.
- VR training and/or certifications, including knowledge of NBIC Part 4.
- Possible fit test certification maintenance.
- Tankerman training preferred.
- At least 3 years as a Marine Service Technician on tank barges.
- Positive attitude and ethical behavior.
- Attention to detail, strong work ethic, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
