Position Overview: We are working with a leading mechanical contractor in the Chantilly, VA area to find an experienced Lead Design Engineer – MEP. Our client is one of the leading contractors in the Washington, DC area. Their projects include HVAC and plumbing for large multi‑family and commercial developments. The Design Engineer P.E. will focus on mechanical design‑related activities—conducting calculations, selecting equipment, and supporting the development of construction documents such as drawings, specifications, and field support work (existing condition surveys, progress reports, punch lists).
They will plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and performance of direct reports, and will mentor junior engineers.
- Perform calculations and analysis to support design decisions and ensure mechanical or system integrity.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions for projects, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Review, interpret and provide technical guidance to project operations and related departments regarding contract specifications, plans, and Engineer of Record recommendations.
- Oversee engineering projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating resources.
- Collaborate with internal departments, project operations, architects, contractors, and clients to ensure project specifications and timelines are met.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
- Ensure that all designs and engineering work adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide expertise in troubleshooting, design modifications, or system improvements as required.
- BS Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET‑accredited university program.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure, maintained and renewed through continuing education and adherence to professional development requirements.
- Significant working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing construction and engineering practices.
- Significant technical knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, applications, construction contract language and terms.
