Position:Land Surveyor
Summary: This position is responsible for making precise measurements to determine property boundaries. The land surveyor provides data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth’s surface for engineering, mapmaking, and construction projects. Responsibilities include performing topographic and boundary surveys, preparing plats, flood certificates, and construction stakeout, among others. The surveyor works closely with project managers and technicians to ensure seamless project transitions and is responsible for data verification, quality control, and research of land records.
The role also involves preparing plots, maps, and reports.
- Measure distances and angles between points on, above, and below the Earth’s surface.
- Travel to locations, select reference points, and establish boundaries.
- Research land records, survey records, and land titles.
- Record survey results and verify data accuracy.
- Prepare plots, maps, and reports.
- Present findings to clients and agencies.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant software and contribute to team efforts.
Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Micro Station, Carlson, Trimble, and Topcon software.
- Knowledge of ALTA/ACSM Standards and Virginia regulations.
- Understanding of GIS and GPS technology.
- Strong mathematical and interpretative skills.
- Effective communication and supervisory abilities.
Licensed Professional Land Surveyor required. Failure to maintain licensure may lead to termination.
Travel & Other Requirements:- Up to 20% travel, including overnight stays.
- Valid driver’s license, background check, and drug testing as per policy.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
- High school diploma or GED; LS required; 18+ years of age.
- Salaried, exempt position.
- Reports to Office Manager.
- Entry level, contract employment, management and manufacturing industry, civil engineering sector.
