POSITION:
Field Coordinator
SUMMARY:
This position requires thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques and latest instruments of land surveying. In addition, knowledge of civil engineering principles and terminology relevant to the practice of land surveying including construction methods, engineering plans and specifications is a must. The Field Coordinator plans and coordinates land survey work including supervising and coordinating diverse survey activities of staff and field crews.
Coordinator also processes and checks all files that the field crews generate and creates an AutoCAD drawing for survey techs. Coordinator is required to work closely with the survey crews and project manager to transition the project seamlessly from one phase to the next. This position must also be able to perform all the duties and responsibilities of a Survey Party Chief.
Coordinator may occasionally fill-in a field crew position in their absence to maintain efficient and productive survey schedules. Coordinator is highly organized and able to multi-task. This work requires considerable judgment and tact when coordinating necessary procedures with crews, survey technicians, and project managers.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (Work assignments may vary depending on the office's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)
- Plans, organizes, and assigns all phases of the work of the survey crews;
- Recognizes any problems which have arisen in the field, reports conflicting issues as they occur, and notifies the field crew for subsequent correction;
- Trains survey crew in technical survey and safety methods, techniques and procedures;
- Arranges for Miss Utility for SUE designation on projects.
- Coordinates with the Safety Officer for onsite safety evaluations and reporting.
- Participates in selection, placement, discipline, and termination of assigned field crew staff;
- Assigns work to, and evaluates performance of assigned staff;
- Maintains and calibrates survey instruments annually;
- Maintains field vehicles including routine engine, tire maintenance and state inspections as well as major repairs;
- Arranges for security badges and access passes to project sites.
- AutoCAD is a must with Civil 3D, Trimble (TBC and TGO) and Topcon (Civil Suite, SurvCE) capabilities desirable;

- Performing mathematical calculations requiring probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Interpreting construction plans and specifications, maps, plats and legal descriptions;
- Communicating both orally and in writing for effective interface with clients, contractors, staff and management;
- Directing, supervising, training, and evaluating performance of assigned staff.
Required
- Five years of surveying field experience and two years of experience supervising and training technical staff performing land surveying (which may be concurrent with general experience). (Satisfactory completion of a construction surveying or elementary surveying course from an accredited college, vocational/technical school or military training may be substituted for two years of the required surveying experience.)
