ResponsibilitiesRequires a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field. Also requires 2+ years of job‑related experience, or a Master’s degree and 6 months of job‑related experience. Agile experience preferred.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTSDepartment of Defense Top Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire (but not required). Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVESAs a Systems Engineer for the SDA GMI program, you will be a key member of a cross‑functional team responsible for developing and deploying state‑of‑the‑art ground operational systems. Your contributions will be vital to the success and innovation of the program.
Preferred Skills and Experiences Domain Knowledge- Satellite communications knowledge
- Ground to satellite communication knowledge
- Experience with system/software design for cloud‑based microservice architecture
- Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows)
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V)
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and methodologies
- Experience with systems design, integration, and validation
- Proficiency in requirements analysis and system architecture design
- Understanding of Dev Ops principles and practices
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Cloud Formation)
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices
- Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001)
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Proficient in documenting system designs, configurations, and procedures
- Proficiency in systems engineering, decomposing requirements into architecture, internal and external interfaces, and design behavior
- Experience with ground pre‑planned or ad‑hoc scheduling and situational awareness of satellites and payloads
- Experience with tracking IR payload or ground mission data transport, handling, and analysis
- Experience decomposing high‑level space‑ground systems design into ground software/systems design
- Experience with MBSE methodologies and tools such as CAMEO or Magic Draw
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, Python, and MATLAB, including for software developer coordination, system analysis, prototype algorithm development, or modeling
- Knowledge of cloud technologies and their application in system design and deployment
- Background in simulation and modeling analysis with tools like STK, particularly in aerospace applications a plus
