Job Description SummaryThe Pharmacy Manager is a licensed professional responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and providing safe, appropriate pharmacy services to Option Care patients in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The role coordinates patient services with nursing, delivery, and reimbursement departments, manages budgeting, procurement, inventory, and security of all drug products, and supports the Operations Director in achieving operational and financial goals.
Responsibilities- Determine suitability of patients for home care and supervise pharmacy staff to ensure quality and effectiveness of patient care.
- Direct the activities of the pharmacy department and schedule work activities so pharmaceutical‑care needs are met.
- Develop and mentor staff through onboarding, training, and performance management processes.
- Oversee product purchasing, inventory, budgeting, and equipment management; assist the General Manager with operating and expenditure budgets.
- Provide support to sales professionals and the general manager by speaking knowledgeably about the scope of services available through Option Care.
- Serve as Office Administrator with the Director of Nursing or Nurse Manager when the General Manager is absent; collect and organize patient‑specific information to prevent medication‑related problems.
- Monitor clinical staff documentation on pharmacy care plans for home‑care patients and evaluate monitoring data.
- Ensure medications are prepared and dispensed following Option Care policies; calibrate equipment accurately and maintain appropriate storage conditions.
- Coordinate on‑call responsibilities of the pharmacy department and provide reliable pharmacy services when scheduled.
- Manage investigational drug products per regulations and Option Care policies, ensuring compliance with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Hire, recommend, and approve promotions and pay increases.
- Schedule staff and conduct performance reviews, discipline, and other personnel management tasks.
- Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Current, active Pharmacy license granted by the State Board of Pharmacy.
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience in a clean‑room or infusion pharmacy setting, or 3 years of experience with non‑sterile compounding, MTM, or a completed ASHP accredited Pharmacy Residency Program.
- At least 3 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, development, and motivation.
- At least 2 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.
- Experience compounding sterile products and managing patient care.
- Experience overseeing purchasing and inventory processes for pharmaceutical supplies.
- Reliable transportation for home visits, including valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Active membership in a related state or national clinical, pharmaceutical, or home health organization.
- Experience identifying operational issues and recommending strategies to resolve them.
- Customer‑service experience with internal and external customers and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes (within and out of state).
- Post‑graduate residency program in clinical pharmacy services.
- Board certification in Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or other clinical pharmacy practice area.
- Experience managing inventory and logistics.
- Minimum 5 years of experience compounding sterile products and managing complex infusion patients.
- Minimum 3 years of experience overseeing purchasing and inventory processes for pharmaceutical supplies.
