Heavy Equipment Mechanic
MECHANIC I (Heavy Equipment)
Branch is searching for an entry‑level, safety‑oriented Mechanic to join our well‑established, growing company. The Mechanic I is responsible for assisting with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, graders, and haul trucks. The role works under close supervision of senior mechanics and supervisors to develop technical skills and ensure the safe and efficient operation of company‑owned equipment.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance (lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, inspections).
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Complete minor repairs and adjustments under supervision.
- Maintain service records and accurately document work performed.
- Inspect equipment for safety hazards and report deficiencies.
- Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and service manuals as directed.
- Keep work area, tools, and shop organized and clean.
- Follow company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines.
- Assist senior mechanics with major component repairs (engines, transmissions, hydraulics).
- Ability to work independently on routine tasks and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic training in automotive/heavy equipment repair (trade school, apprenticeship, or equivalent preferred).
- 0–2 years of relevant experience.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain).
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.

Minimal travel required; on‑call early/late hours to respond to job site emergencies. No supervisory responsibilities.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent standing, talking and hearing. Occasional walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting and smelling.
Frequent lifting or moving up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lifting or moving up to 75 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Full‑time, 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on‑call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather, and emergencies at the job site.
