Lead Structured Cabling Technician Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Structured Cabling Technician to manage and execute complex fiber and cabling installations for large-scale commercial and data center projects. This role combines hands‑on technical work, including fiber splicing, termination, and testing, with team leadership and project coordination. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fiber infrastructure, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.
Job Responsibilities Technical Duties- Install cable infrastructure and perform fiber rough‑in
- Manage cable dressing and labeling
- Perform cable and fiber termination
- Conduct ribbon and fusion splicing using appropriate equipment
- Install and configure single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC connector types
- Perform Fluke and OTDR testing and troubleshoot fiber issues
- Rack and stack customer equipment and build out server racks and rack elevations
- Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, and customer equipment
- Complete infrastructure installations, including cable management systems, fiber trays, ladder racks, and power trays
- Receive materials and assemble hardware
- Execute Outside Plant (OSP) installations, running fiber into data centers
- Troubleshoot and perform quality control on all fiber and infrastructure installations
- Read and follow blueprints for installation
- Communicate professionally with colleagues and management
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols, including proper PPE and OSHA standards
- Lead teams to successfully complete large‑scale commercial projects
- Manage relationships with general contractors and clients
- Conduct safety meetings and enforce compliance
- Order necessary materials and forecast labor requirements
- Submit blueprint changes and change orders to the Project Manager
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Data Center Technician
- Minimum 5 years of fiber installation experience, including splicing
- Proven ability to manage large crews of 10 or more people
- Active OSHA 10 certification preferred
- Physical ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts, work in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lbs, and move up to 75 lbs. Must be able to stand for entire shifts
- Required tools include basic hand tools such as a multi‑bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle‑nose and channel‑lock pliers, punch‑down tool, flashlight, steel‑toe or composite‑toe work boots, gloves, and a tool pouch
