Bus Driver – Neosho County Community College
Reports to:
Director of Facilities; classification:
Part‑time, 10‑month; pay status: hourly, non‑exempt; minimum starting salary: $17.50/hr.
Purpose:
ensures the health, safety and welfare of bus passengers during transportation.
- Provide premiere quality service to all constituencies of the College.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement and professional development.
- Ensure safety and well‑being of passengers.
- Arrange for annual state inspection of the bus(es); ensure approved purchases/repairs per inspection.
- Complete a comprehensive written inspection of the bus, reporting any conditions of concern to the Director or delegated staff prior to transportation.
- Ensure the communication device (e.g., two‑way radio, cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip.
- Arrange for, and ensure completion of, routine maintenance of the bus (e.g., oil change); transport bus to and from maintenance/repair facilities.
- Ensure that the bus always has sufficient fuel.
- Ensure that there is always fresh drinking water on the bus.
- In consultation with the Director, develop and follow efficient and safe written bus routes.
- Operate the bus so that road and safety regulations are always followed; report any traffic violations to the Director immediately.
- Keep the bus clean and free of debris; follow other bus cleaning procedures.
- Routinely inventory bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment; report needs to the Director.
- Assist in other transportation training of other college staff as necessary.
- In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuate passengers according to written and practiced procedures.
- In the event of an accident, assure that medical emergency procedures are followed; complete a written accident report as required by college policy and other authorities.
- Attend and participate in in‑service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or designee.
Skills and Abilities
- Vision in both eyes; night vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image to students, employees and patrons.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent initiative and judgment appropriately.
- HS diploma or GED required; associate’s preferred.
- Current State of Kansas commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement.
- One year of verifiable driving experience.
- No DUI conviction in past three (3) years.
- Wear appropriate NCCC apparel while on duty.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre‑trip inspections, and clean the bus as needed.
- Ability to use hand‑held communication devices such as cell phones.
- Evening and/or weekend work required as schedule dictates.
