Position Summary

The Division of Infectious Diseases at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a Open Rank on the variable track. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
General  at UNC Medical Center and UNC Hospitals’ Hillsborough Campus, with an average census of approximately 15-20 adult medical, surgical, and/or behavioral health inpatients;
Participation with ambulatory and inpatient ‘e-consult’ and/or tele- requests;
Occasional supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows in inpatient and ambulatory settings;
Assisting clinical leadership with quality improvement efforts for our inpatient consultation services;
Participation in weekly  conferences and grand rounds; and will serve as the Associate Medical Director of Infection Prevention.

As a faculty member in the Division of Infectious Diseases, a successful candidate will have experience in providing consultative  to a highly complex patient population. The UNC Division of Infectious Diseases has six inpatient consult services, which include two consult services specializing in providing care to immunocompromised hosts. UNC  also staff a medical admitting service, and provide outpatient consultative , as well as primary HIV care.

Experience in compromised host and/or transplant infectious diseases consultation in the inpatient or outpatient setting in preferred but not required.

The Associate Medical Director of Infection Prevention will provide leadership for UNC Hospitals’ Infection Prevention efforts and will support the current Executive Director with leadership for the community-based UNC Health hospitals and associated ambulatory clinics owned by UNC Health. The role also provides consultative clinical Infectious Diseases care.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent)
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in  (by anticipated start date)
  • Board certified or board eligible in
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in NC
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience
  • 5 years’ experience in hospital epidemiology
  • MPH degree
  • Familiarity with Epic EMR
  • Familiarity with or experience leading quality improvement initiatives is desirable
  • Fluency in Spanish is helpful but not required
