Position

Summary

The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking a full‑time surgical oncologist to join our Division of Surgical Oncology. The Division includes 15 faculty members and 9 advanced practice providers, providing multidisciplinary care for oncology patients. The role is an open‑rank faculty appointment, with rank determined by credentials and scholarly achievements. The appointment may be fixed‑term, tenure‑track, or variable at 0.5–1.0 FTE.

Clinical responsibilities include participation in multidisciplinary care, tumor boards, and surgical support of oncology programs. The candidate should have a substantial interest in clinical trials and an interest in multiple cancer types. Faculty are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Exceptional candidates may be considered for leadership within the department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality clinical care in the UNC Healthcare system.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care, tumor boards, and surgical support of oncology programs.
  • Engage in clinical trials and research initiatives.
  • Educate medical students, residents, and fellows regularly.
  • Seek leadership opportunities within the Division of Surgical Oncology, if available.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
  • Board Certified or Board eligible in General Surgery and fellowship trained in surgical oncology.
  • Current North Carolina Medical License or eligibility to apply.
  • Professional, team‑oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the clinical, educational, and research missions of the Department and School of Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, And Experience
  • Expertise in general surgical oncology.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring medical students and residents.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
  • Report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager.
  • Complete annual training on reporting responsibilities under the Clery Act.
