Electronics Specialist – Cogeneration System
Location: Chapel Hill, NC 27516
Duration: 12 months
Job Details: This position provides an intermediate level skill set in Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E). The skill set level allows independent work on less complicated equipment and systems or with minimal instruction from Supervisor and/or advanced technicians.
Responsibilities- Installation, preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of power plant boilers and associated auxiliary equipment and fuel handling systems (Examples: PLCs, CDS, VFD, VDS, plant electrical systems 12.47kV, 4.16kV, 2.3kV, 480V, 120/280V, 480V motor control centers, CEMS, scientific analyzers for water chemistry, steam turbine and diesel generator voltage regulators and governor control systems, electrical protective relaying).
- Maintenance of electrical, instrumentation and control circuitry on equipment and systems (Examples:
Instrument air, fans, pumps, valves, control valves, mills, cooling towers, fluid drives, air compressors, water treatment systems, bag houses, fuel handling systems, stack lights, railroad crossing signals). - Develop, modify and implement daily reports on the DCS.
- Stay conversant with EPA and DAQ regulatory requirements for CEMS (with training).
- Respond immediately to events that jeopardize facility capacity to produce steam and electricity; may be required to report to work during adverse weather or emergencies.
- Used for heating, cooling, domestic hot water, sterilization of surgical instruments, distilled water production, food preparation and dish washing. Cogeneration Systems also generate electricity as a byproduct of steam generation, supplying about 30% of campus electrical load.
- Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent combination of training and experience (from accredited institutions).
- Experience in repair and maintenance of a variety of electrical/electronic equipment or systems.
- Work in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold, direct sun, precipitation, wind).
- Ability to remain in a single or stationary location for extended periods.
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs in buildings without an elevator.
- Will need to enter confined spaces or hazardous environments with appropriate PPE per procedures.
