The purpose of this position is to perform technical work in the inspection and management of Town capital construction projects and private development projects; to interpret and enforce applicable code requirements.
This position is safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing. This position is also driving essential and must conform to the Town's Safe Driving and Accident Policy and procedures.
Performs inspections by coordinating construction with other Town departments as well as other governmental agencies; ensuring that plans have been approved and permits are in place; maintains inspection records; verifying materials used to meet Town standards;
Performs inspections of Town maintained infrastructure such as, but not limited to, roadways, sidewalks, bridges and various stormwater systems; ensures that construction plans have been Town approved and that permits are in place; maintains inspection records; verifies materials meet Town standards.
Note:
Water and Sewer Infrastructure are not maintained nor inspected by the Town;
Manages projects in the field by holding pre‑construction conferences; providing adequate project supervision; interprets drawings; assists resolving issues; maintaining inspection records; approves contract payments.
Responds to requests from the public by assisting them in acquiring permits and approvals; assisting Town staff with requests for information; assists public utilities with information on right of way; assists contractors RFI on permit and approval questions.
Maintains archival and data retention records by ensuring that all drawings are approved and submitted; maintains a database of commercial and residential building complexes for use by emergency departments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is typically performed in a variety of work environments and requires the ability to traverse adverse terrain, work in heat, cold, and other weather conditions typically encountered in an outdoor environment. The employee uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Knowledge of:- Applicable federal and state laws, town ordinances, and department policies and procedures
- Building and construction practices for a variety of public works projects
- Civil engineering practices, including hydrology
- The geography and street/road systems of the town
- Local building codes
- Communicate effectively (orally and in writing)
- Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents
- Apply fundamental concepts of theories
- Work with advanced mathematical operations methods and functions of real and complex variables.
- Write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all-parts of speech

Associate degree in civil engineering or construction management or in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties.
