Overview
As a Counselor at Women’s Residential Services
, you will have the opportunity to have a direct healing impact on women with substance use disorders. You will facilitate groups that are evidence-based practices for women with co-occurring disorders, provide interventions that are life-changing, and experience firsthand the changes these women make in their residential stay. WRS has an 80% success rate and provides hope, treatment, and coordination of care for long-lasting recovery.
Our team is comprised of women who have a passion for making a difference in the clients we serve and in the underserved population as a whole. The emotional rewards of touching another person’s life in such a way that they reach their true potential are difficult to describe. We aim to inspire, motivate, and engage women to reach their full potential.

- Provides education and direction to clients, family members and/or significant others.
- Provides direct services to clients including individual and group treatment.
- Takes responsibility for training in and documenting clinical chart requirements to meet program and state standards.
- Provide an atmosphere of customer service in assuring that clients are treated in a friendly and respectful manner.
- Responds to inquiries, gives appropriate information and referrals, and documents, if necessary.
- Conducts crisis intervention/evaluation/referral to persons in the community or who present themselves at the program. Secures hospitalization, if necessary.
- Performs initial evaluations and assessments of potential clients regarding their appropriateness for participation in the program.
- Serves food to clients in residential programs.
- Assists in facilitating transportation of clients.
- Flex Counselor I ($22.33)
- High School diploma or GED and three (3) years’ experience
- Associate's degree in a related field
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Flex Counselor II ($24.23)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or
- Bachelor's in any field and two (2) years' experience, or
- High School diploma or GED and five (5) years' experience
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Hold clinical certification as a (CADC) Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor from the IAODAPCA, or
- Be a licensed professional counselor or licensed clinical professional counselor, or
- Be a physician licensed to practice medicine in all its branches, or
- Be licensed as a psychologist, or
- Be licensed as a social worker or licensed clinical social worker
New professional staff who do not meet the above requirements at hire shall meet the requirements specified within two (2) years after the date of employment in the substance use disorder (SUD) field. Time in the SUD field is accumulative, not per employment episode.

Residency requirement: Currently, you must reside in Illinois or Wisconsin to work for the Lake County Health Department.
