Location: Chapel Hill, NC
This position is part of the Network Deployment team that installs, configures, troubleshoots, and monitors a large enterprise data network. Duties include planning and executing life‑cycling of networking assets across campus (switching, wireless, UPS systems). The role responds to critical network events 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule and works 100% on‑site. It plays a critical role in networking projects through subject‑matter knowledge, project management, and attention to detail.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of networking related experience such as network design, analysis or network management; or
- Associate’s degree in Electronics or Networking Technology and one year of networking related experience: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.
- Demonstrated work experience in the networking field.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive work relationships in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to new technologies on demand.
- Excellent written and oral customer‑service skills.
- Advanced layer 1 knowledge including cabling and fiber installation standards, troubleshooting, experience with a fiber meter/scope, familiarity with connector types.
- Significant layer 2 knowledge including STP, LACP, LLDP, MLAG, MVRP, 802.1q.
- Basic layer 3 knowledge (including OSPF).
- Familiarity with PoE standards (802.3af, 802.3at, 802.3bt).
- Experience with Extreme, Cisco, Aruba and Arista operating systems.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP.
- Experience with network gear life‑cycling (planning and execution).
- Experience with switch configuration templating.
- Experience with data capture and analysis (Wireshark preferred).
- Experience in Data Center networking (high‑speed PHY and fully meshed configurations).
- Experience in 802.11 wireless technology.
- Experience with Extreme Campus Fabric (SPBm 802.1aq).
Must be able to lift or move up to 60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, and ascend/descend ladders. Must have or be able to obtain a valid NC Driver’s License, as duties require driving a State vehicle.
