IT Security Professional

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is hiring an IT Security Professional - 2. This senior-level role involves planning, implementing, and managing secure and high-performance IT infrastructure, serving as a subject matter expert across information security, server and network administration, and IT project management. The professional leads security architecture, incident response, policy development, and collaborates across units to enhance IT security and ensure compliance with university and regulatory standards.

• Design and maintain network security architecture and deploy security monitoring tools.
• Manage forensic analysis, incident response, and establish security policies and procedures.
• Lead IT projects ensuring secure systems handling sensitive data are delivered on time and within scope.
• Provide expert consultation on secure operations, change management, and coding best practices.
• Manage Microsoft Windows Server environments, Microsoft SQL Server, Linux administration, and server virtualization platforms.
• Require knowledge of information security frameworks (NIST, CIS, ISO 27001), network security tools, and regulatory requirements including FERPA, HIPAA, PCI-DSS.
• Preferred certifications include CISSP, CISM, CEH, SSCP, or CompTIA Security+.
• Experience in higher education IT environments and familiarity with ITSM, disaster recovery, cloud platforms, and security awareness training.
• Must hold a master's degree with 1-2 years' experience or bachelor's with 2-4 years' experience (or equivalent combination).
• Position requires some after-hours availability for incident response and system changes, and the ability to conduct onsite work including physical tasks and travel across campus locations.
