Post-Doc Research Associate-Bhatt Lab - Vacancy
The Bhatt Lab at UNC Chapel Hill seeks motivated, talented, and creative scientists with bioanalytical expertise. Candidates will develop assays to quantify drug metabolites produced by gut microbes and the host via tandem LC‑MS/MS, and will provide support to the UNC Dept. of Mass Spectrometry Core laboratory.
Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsPh.D. in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field with relevant publications.
Required Qualifications , Competencies, And ExperienceDesign and perform experiments, analyze and interpret data, and disseminate research findings through manuscripts, grant applications, and oral presentations. Must have expertise in quantitative mass spectrometry, wet‑lab techniques, and mentoring undergraduate students.
Key Responsibilities- Design and conduct experiments with a focus on quantitative mass spectrometry. Perform sample extraction and preparation from biological matrices.
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets, including quantitative mass spectrometry data.
- Prepare and present research findings through manuscripts, grant proposals, and oral presentations at lab meetings and conferences.
- Mentor undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and data analysis.
- Troubleshoot and maintain mass spectrometry and chromatography equipment.
- Resolve experimental challenges independently.
- Adapt published protocols for laboratory use.
- PhD in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
- Knowledge of modern mass spectrometer equipment and software.
- Proficiency in pipetting, sample extraction, and preparation from biological matrices.
- Experience with large datasets derived from mass spectrometry-based analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve complex problems.
- Strong communication skills for written and oral presentations.
- Experience training and mentoring diverse individuals.
- Willingness to work occasional long hours.
- Experience in drug metabolism, intestinal biology, epithelial biology, or stem cell biology.
- Prior experience with mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography instrumentation.
- Quantitative mass spectrometry experience with tandem mass spectrometers.
- Ability to work with undergraduate students.
- Complete repetitive tasks.
- Work nights, weekends, or after hours as needed.
- Collaborate effectively in a team environment.
