This position is responsible for the security at the Family Medicine facility. The officer will conduct patrols to ensure all doors and windows are secure, lock and unlock doors per post orders, check identification of suspicious persons, assist employees and guests with escorts and vehicle assistance, address hazards and report to UNC Dispatch. The officer must arrive on time and in full uniform, notify supervisors of incidents, maintain property protection, and operate security equipment.
Responsibilities- Conduct interior and exterior patrols, ensuring doors and windows remain secure.
- Lock and unlock doors in accordance with post orders.
- Identify and verify suspicious individuals.
- Assist employees and visitors with escorts, disabled vehicles, and emergencies (e.g., power outages, heating/cooling problems).
- Report incidents, hazards, or unusual activity to supervisors and/or the Security Manager.
- Monitor crimes in progress and communicate to responding officers via UNC Dispatch.
- Complete accurate daily activity and task reports.
- Use security equipment and provide vehicle escorts as requested.
- Guard property against fire, damage, theft, and other hazards.
- Enforce campus policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognize and report suspicious or hazardous situations.
- Participate in TPS Parking Enforcement for citations and towing.
- Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and adapt to changing circumstances.
High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require a valid N.C. driver’s license.
Required Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience- Knowledge of protective, security, and enforcement practices.
- Understanding of campus policies, rules, and regulations to make informed decisions in unique situations.
- Ability to assist in creating or reviewing security policies and regulations.
- Effective communication with supervisors regarding significant judgment or interpretation issues.
- Conflict negotiation and resolution skills with the public, university officials, and other stakeholders.
- Provide adequate training on security, patrol, and enforcement procedures to replacement guards.
- Law enforcement or security experience.
- Experience in a university setting.
- Familiarity with the UNC–Chapel Hill campus.
- Patrol interior and exterior facilities on foot, including climbing stairs independently.
- Lift or move up to 40 lbs.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. The officer will report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training regarding reporting responsibilities.
