Sign-On Bonus

A sign-on bonus of $7,458 is available for successful applicants, paid in two installments within 12 months of hire: $3,729 within 30 days and $3,729 12 months after hire.

Position Summary

This position requires an advanced level skill set in Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) with expertise in two or more complex control/electrical systems. You will work independently on instrumentation, controls and electrical components in a complex steam and electric generating facility, ensuring they operate safely and reliably. You will lead and train junior technicians. Responsibilities include installation, preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of boilers, balance of plant auxiliary equipment, and fuel handling systems.

Key control and electrical equipment includes PLCs, CDS, VFDs, VDSs, plant electrical systems (12.47kV, 4.16kV, 2.3kV, 480V, 120/280V), CEMS, vapor analyzers, steam turbine and diesel generator voltage regulators and governor control systems, and electrical protective relaying. You will program, modify, and tune PLCs and DCS digital and analog control loops, develop and revise control graphics, daily reports, and the historian on the DCS, and ensure compliance with EPA and DAQ regulatory requirements for the CEMS.

Safety practices must be followed at all times.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications , Competencies, And Experience

Experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of electrical/electronic equipment or systems. Ability to operate state vehicles (valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain prior to hire). Must participate in rotational on-call duty and be able to work in extreme weather conditions. Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, ascend/descend stairs without an elevator, enter confined spaces or hazardous environments with appropriate PPE, and be a mandatory employee for communicable disease protocols and emergency duty.

Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, And Experience

Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Valid NC Driver’s License.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Work may be in air-conditioned, heated, dusty, hot, humid, or cold conditions. Employees may need to climb ladders/stairs, work with hands/arms overhead, move over 50 lbs, and may require a self-contained breathing apparatus. Position requires the ability to work outdoors year round.

Special Instructions

Eligibility for sign-on bonus is contingent upon state policy and budget. Qualified applicants must not have worked in a state government appointment in the last 12 months for the N.C. state. Newly hired full-time or part-time permanent employees are eligible for a sign-on bonus, prorated if less than 40 hours per week. SHRA sign-on bonus is subject to final eligibility determination.
