The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the principal.

• Have a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the board and implement them throughout the sports program.
• Understand state and league regulations, interpret them for staff, and enforce consistency.
• Maintain proper administrative line of command and refer all requests or grievances through the correct channels.
• Be aware of all public, staff, and departmental meetings that require attendance.
• Train, inform, and encourage professional growth of staff through conferences, clinics, and meetings.
• Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate assistant coaches at season’s end.
• Mentor each athlete to promote trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Monitor student grades and conduct, providing assistance whenever necessary.
• Assist with budgeting, equipment selection, and maintain equipment within budget appropriations.
• Coordinate program with maintenance and school employees, ensuring facility use is scheduled and protected.
• Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings and promote the sport within the school and community.
• Maintain good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans, and present information to media regarding schedules, tournaments, and results.

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
• Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continuously seeks new theories and procedures.
• Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
