Job Title:
Head Track Coach (Co-ed) at Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
Reports To:
The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the principal.
Qualifications:
- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports).
- The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.
- Supervises:
Advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal. - Job Goal:
Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for individual and team success; promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence and pride in student athletes.
- Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Design conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
- Train and inform staff; encourage professional growth by promoting clinic attendance according to local policy.
- Delegate duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate staff effectiveness at season's end.
- Maintain discipline, adjust grievances and work to increase morale and cooperation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.
- Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times.
- Coordinate program with maintenance and school employees.
- Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility.
- Provide safeguards for maintenance and protection of equipment sites.
- Advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method or procedural changes.
- Mentor athletes to promote character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
- Monitor students' grades and conduct.
- Be present at all practices and games; provide guidance and safeguards for participants.
- Provide training rules and any sport-specific regulations to athletes.
- Initiate programs concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
- Complete paperwork on disabling injuries and submit to the athletic office within 24 hours.
- Direct student managers, assistants and statisticians.
- Determine discipline, outline due process when enforcing discipline, and communicate with parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
- Assist athletes in college or advanced education selection.
- Participate in budgeting with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season.
- Recommend equipment guidelines and ensure operations within budget.
- Accountable for all equipment and collect costs for lost or unreturned items.
- Arrange issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment; maintain annual inventory and records.
- Mark and identify all equipment; monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices; control access to equipment.
- Ensure athletes are in authorized areas and inspect locker rooms for cleanliness; maintain sport equipment.
- Secure doors, lights, windows, and locks when leaving if custodians are not on duty.
- Instill respect for equipment and school property in players.
- Organize preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players and guests.
- Promote the sport within and outside the school (recruiting athletes not in other programs; engaging with media and community programs).
- Ensure quality and accuracy of releases to local media; maintain good public relations with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
- Provide information to the news media regarding schedules, tournaments and results.
