Position Overview
The Construction Controller is responsible for the accurate administration, organization, and maintenance of the firm’s accounting records within a design-build construction environment. This role supports the integrity of financial data through disciplined accounting practices, consistent application of construction cost accounting standards, and effective coordination with internal teams, subcontractors and vendors.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage accounting functions with precision in a multi-project setting.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain accurate and timely accounting records across multiple projects in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Administer accounts payable activities, including invoice review, processing, and documentation management.
- Support construction billing activities, including preparation and coordination of pay applications and related documentation.
- Maintain organized digital accounting files and project-level financial documentation.
- Coordinate with project teams, vendors, and subcontractors to support accurate cost tracking and documentation.
- Identify discrepancies or incomplete information and assist in resolving issues to maintain data integrity.
- Provide general accounting and administrative support as needed to support business operations.
- Oversee the job costing process, ensuring accurate cost allocation.
- Review job cost reports regularly and collaborate with Project Managers to address variances.
- Lead monthly job review meetings with the executive team.
- 2–4 years of construction accounting or job cost accounting experience.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain structured financial records.
- Proficiency in Google Suite.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, retention, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and audit standards.
- Experience with AIA billing and commercial construction pay applications.
- Experience with construction accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore, Quickbooks, Knowify).
- Professional, reliable, and discreet in handling financial information.
- Effective communicator with internal and external teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
