This full-time position is based at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System. The position reports directly to the Chief of Staff (COS). The Deputy Chief of Staff is responsible for the clinical operations at Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System. This position will work collaboratively with members of the Chief of Staff office, service line leaders, and clinical staff to maximize operational efficiencies.

• Represent the Chief of Staff (COS) in all aspects of administrative leadership, including participation in key health care system managerial bodies and the organized medical staff.
• Supervise employees to accomplish the work of the organization, including assigning work, strategic planning, mentoring, educating, and performing personnel management functions.
• Collaborate with Senior Management Team on leadership, policy, planning, budget, operations, and organizational performance.
• Coordinate with clinical and administrative service line leaders across locations to set performance standards, implement policy, and guide clinical performance improvement.
• Lead or actively participate in task groups and committees addressing clinical issues at local, VISN, and national VHA levels.
• Develop and integrate programs with policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure quality and comprehensive services.
• Guide management and administrative matters affecting patient care, education, research, and organizational policy.
• Contribute to the strategic mission, vision, values, and goals of the RHJ VAHCS, with direct patient care responsibilities within area of clinical expertise.
• Deliver high quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care while meeting performance goals and adhering to ethical standards.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accrediting requirements.
• Foster positive relationships with academic affiliates and other key stakeholders.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy).
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or an equivalent medical degree from an approved school.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency training approved by the VA for eligibility for board certification.
• Board eligibility or certification in a core specialty; eligibility considerations for academic roles as specified by VA policy.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience

• Leadership experience within VA or similar health system environments.
• Knowledge of the VA system and its regulations; demonstrated ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs; strong administrative and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in maintaining partnerships with academic affiliations and other stakeholders.

• Has direct patient care responsibilities within the area of clinical expertise.
• Deliver high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care while meeting performance goals and ethical standards.
• Ensure all applicable regulatory and accrediting body requirements are met.
• Support and participate in the VA total rewards program and related policies as applicable.
