Pediatric Oncology and Cellular Therapy Physician Scientist

Overview

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Pediatric Oncology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a collaborative recruitment supported by the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Darby Children’s Research Institute, the Hollings Cancer Center, and the Integrated Center for Cellular Therapy. The position focuses on immune-based approaches for the treatment of childhood cancers, with particular interest in CAR T-cell or other cellular therapies.

• Lead and contribute to translational and clinical research in pediatric oncology with an emphasis on immune-based therapies, including CAR T-cell or cellular therapies.
• Investigate the role of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and mechanisms of immune suppression to inform the development of novel immunotherapies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across MUSC and with external national/international research groups.
• Contribute to education and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows; participate in teaching activities within the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and related programs.

• The MUSC pediatric stem cell transplant, CAR-T, gene therapy, and pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship programs are based in South Carolina.
• The combined pediatric and adult BMT and Cellular Therapy Programs are FACT-accredited with strong outcomes (CIBMTR 2020–2022) and the program is an authorized treatment center for gene therapy.
• Collaborations with Hollings Cancer Center (NCI-designated), the Darby Children’s Research Institute, and the Center for Cellular Therapy support a robust program including a dedicated team of physicians, advanced practice providers, and allied services.
• Facilities include the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion; the Charles P. Darby Children’s Research Institute, a leading pediatric research facility.

• Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
• MD or MD/PhD with a strong record of research accomplishments and peer-reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a nationally recognized translational and clinical research program.
• Commitment to teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
