  • Locations: VARIES - AVID tutor positions are available at RB Stall High School, Baptist Hill Middle School, Baptist Hill High School, Haut Gap Middle School, St. John's High School, Early College High School, CE Williams South, Septima Clark Academy, Morningside Middle School, Deer Park Middle School, and Simmons Pinckney Middle School. Tutors may work at more than one school upon approval.

    Principal and AVID Coordinator
  • AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) tutors will support middle and/or high school students in the AVID Elective course by providing direct instructional support with the assistance of an AVID Elective teacher. Tutors will work with students in study groups and individually, assisting them in all academic areas. They will serve as role models and help guide students toward academic and personal excellence beyond high school.
  • Rate of Pay: $17.00 per hour
  • Hours:

    1-7 hours per week
  • Responsibilities:
    • Work individually with students on writing assignments and support mastery of content areas.
    • Lead peer critique groups emphasizing collaborative learning.
    • Assist students in any subject area and in developing study skills for college preparation.
    • Support students through all phases of the writing process, including brainstorming, clustering, read arounds, revision, and editing.
    • Evaluate student binders, including calendars, notes, and learning logs.
    • Communicate regularly with the AVID Coordinator/Teacher about student progress and concerns.
    • Ensure students complete work in a timely manner.
    • Establish rapport with students and facilitate learning in a supportive environment.
    • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations.
    • Participate in trainings, professional development, and meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to meet educational goals.
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • High School Diploma.
    • Evidence of college enrollment or credits (Preferred).
    • Previous tutoring or mentoring experience.
    • Strong belief in students' ability to graduate college ready.
    • Effective communication skills with students and adults.
    • Excellent writing skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Responsibility and reliability.
