As a Swim Teacher, you will provide private and group swim lessons for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Your goal is to create a fun, positive learning environment that encourages growth and improvement.
Responsibilities- As a Water Safety Instructor, you will create an educational, safe, and welcoming experience for all participants.
- Memorize and use Charleston Swim School’s approved curriculum and log students' progress.
- Stay aware of pool hazards and maintain constant supervision of students.
- Arrive on time for each lesson and ensure you have reliable transportation (lesson locations may vary, as you will travel to the students' local pools).
- Be alert and prepared to provide first aid or handle emergencies (first aid kits are provided).
- Foster a safe yet challenging environment for student growth.
- Adapt your teaching methods to accommodate the age, experience, and ability of participants to help them meet course objectives.
- As a swim teacher, participate in regular in-service training sessions.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, students, and parents.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Must have experience in aquatics, such as swim team participation, lifeguarding, or instructing.
- Teachers must be positive, enthusiastic, accountable, and communicative. Experience with children is essential.
- Must be able to perform all five strokes and float.
- CPR and First Aid certification is required or must have held it previously and be willing to renew within two weeks of hiring.
- Lifeguard training is preferred.
- Water Safety Instructor certification is a plus but not required.
- Thorough understanding and application of swimming and water safety skills.
- Knowledge of teaching swimming and water safety skills.
- Familiarity with facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Strong leadership, instruction, and public relations skills.
- Excellent communication and decision‑making skills.
- Starting pay: $20‑24 per hour, with 4‑20 hours per week (fewer hours in the fall and spring, more in the summer).
