The Charleston Library Society is seeking an energetic, creative, reliable educator to lead Camp in the Stacks, our summer program designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of reading for children ages 5 to 8. Working closely with the Children’s Programming Coordinator on overall design and themes, the Summer Camp Counselor will lead and run four weeks of summer camp that incorporate stories, art, and creative learning activities, from simple science projects to imaginative play.

This role collaborates with the Programming team at the Library Society and is also supported by dedicated camp staff and volunteers.

Schedule:

Dates:
Four weeks during Summer 2026:
June 8-12, June 22-26, July 13-17, and July 27-31

Hours:

Monday-Friday 8:15 AM – 1:45 PM

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead weekly Camp in the Stacks sessions
  • Develop engaging weekly themes that tie together books, art projects, and creative learning
  • Manage classroom prep, setup, and cleanup each day
  • Maintain a safe the children
Ideal Candidate:
  • Background in elementary education, early childhood education, art education, or related fields
  • Experience leading a classroom or camp setting
  • Comfort in managing a group of up to 10 young children
  • Have a strong interest in fostering a love of reading and literacy among children
  • Positive, reliable, and collaborative attitude
  • Strong creative and imaginative skills
  • Able to lift 40lbs and keep up with lively campers
