Full-Time Spanish Teacher Bishop England High School | Charleston, South Carolina

Bishop England High School is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher to join our World Languages Department. As a Catholic, college-preparatory school, Bishop England is committed to educating the whole student through academic excellence, faith formation, and the development of character and service.

We are looking for a nurturing, enthusiastic, and student-centered educator who is passionate about teaching Spanish and building meaningful relationships with students. The ideal candidate will create a positive and engaging classroom environment where students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow both academically and personally.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Spanish courses at the high school level and provide engaging, appropriately challenging instruction.
  • Develop and implement lessons that promote communication in Spanish and meaningful cultural understanding.
  • Create a welcoming, well-organized classroom environment that supports student learning and encourages active participation.
  • Build positive relationships with students and foster a classroom culture grounded in respect, encouragement, and high expectations.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Adapt instruction and provide appropriate support to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Collaborate with members of the World Languages Department and participate in professional learning and school-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and contribute to the overall life and community of the school.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field, or a teaching degree/certification with appropriate Spanish language proficiency.
  • Prior teaching experience or preparation through a teacher education program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students and create a supportive, structured learning environment.
Preferred:
  • Experience with ACTFL proficiency-based language instruction and/or familiarity with ACTFL World-Readiness Standards.
  • Experience teaching Spanish at the secondary level.
  • Experience with Honors and/or Advanced Placement Spanish.
  • Familiarity with proficiency-based assessment and communicative language teaching.
