Are you a CEI Inspector ready for a role that offers growth, challenge, and the support of a company that values its people while delivering exceptional service to clients? S&ME is seeking motivated, full-time CEI Inspectors at all experience levels to join our Service Line team across South Carolina—‑including Columbia, Florence, Myrtle Beach, Greenville/Spartanburg, Charleston, Gaffney, Orangeburg, Hardeeville—and nearby regions.
As a CEI Inspector, you’ll play a critical role in overseeing contractor activities and ensuring the successful completion of projects. You may make key technical decisions and work independently or as part of a team on projects.
Your Day-to-Day- Oversee construction activities—including grading, paving, bridge work, and traffic control—to ensure they meet project plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Evaluate erosion control measures, confirm environmental compliance, and perform material sampling and quality tests.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, monitor contractor progress, and maintain documentation needed for payment processing.
- Complete calculations, track material quantities, and help keep project milestones on schedule.
- Attend safety and progress meetings, working with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to resolve issues and sustain project momentum.
- Conduct DBE/EEO compliance reviews to verify workforce diversity and equal opportunity requirements are being met.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Highway-related construction or inspection experience, a plus.
- A technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology, equating to 1 year of experience.
- One or more active SCDOT-based certifications, a plus.
- Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, writing) in English.
- Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
- Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods.
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment).
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary.
