Bridge Inspection Engineer – Rope Access
GFT is seeking a Rope Access – Bridge Engineer to support our National Bridge Inspection Practice. The role offers the opportunity to work at the national level across multiple states and engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and community connectivity.
What You’ll Be Challenged To DoAs a Rope Access – Bridge Engineer, you will strengthen transportation networks and support safe travel. You will gain experience with advanced inspection methods, complex bridges, mentorship, and growth toward leadership within GFT.
Responsibilities- Lead or support bridge inspections using rope access methods (SPRAT)
- Plan and lead bridge inspections
- Develop safety plans and rope access plans
- Perform engineering evaluations, load ratings, and structural assessments
- Prepare and review inspection reports
- Coordinate field activities with inspection teams and rope access personnel
- Support mentorship of junior inspectors and rope access technicians
- Collaborate with project managers and other team leaders to complete inspection assignments
- Maintain and organize inspection gear
- Travel throughout the United States for inspection assignments
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
- SPRAT Level I certification with experience performing rope access inspections
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 3+ years of bridge inspection experience
- Completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges (FHWA‑NHI‑130055)
- Completion of NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges and/or NSTM Inspection (FHWA‑NHI‑130078)
- Experience operating bucket trucks, manlifts, and under‑bridge inspection vehicles
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, stress paths, and bridge behavior
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in field and office environments
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work at height, carry equipment, and move safely in varied environments
- Experience in load rating software such as AASHTO BrR
- FAA Part 107 drone certification
- Experience with NDT methods
- Experience with AutoCAD or Micro Station
The salary range for this role is $77,000 - $132,000
; salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
