Bridge Inspector

Description

GFT is seeking an entry‑level Bridge Inspector for work in the Charleston Area. The candidate should be familiar with the SCDOT Bridge and general bridge terminology, be a technical individual who is team‑oriented with strong communication skills, and be willing to travel and work outside the immediate area.

• Field inspection and preparation.
• Willingness to work at heights.
• Willingness to work at night.
• Organize and enter inspector’s notes into the Bridge Management System (BMS).
• Prepare reports for submission.
• Take and convert measurements.
• Take and pass NHI 130055 Safety Inspection In‑Service Bridges after 5 years of experience.
• Other duties may be assigned, including:
  • Keeping track of inspection files for different projects.
  • Communicating with sub‑consultants on related tasks.
  • Creating folders for different districts.
  • Maintaining file folders for different inspection projects.
  • Basic office duties.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic knowledge of computers and typing.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Engages multiple perspectives when solving problems and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
• Advocates for full inclusion in the workplace, fostering an environment that welcomes diversity and values equity.
• 5 years of documentable bridge inspection experience (preferred).
• NHI certification in the Inspection of Fracture Critical Bridges (preferred).
• Knowledge of Adobe, , Print Station, Better jpegs, and Google Maps (preferred).
• Knowledge of SCDOT BIO, Project Wise, Blue Beam, and Google Earth (preferred).

The salary range for this role is $25 to $29 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
